Welcome to the first edition of a new monthly series! I recently invited the Australian FI community to share a personal highlight from the past month.
The journey to financial independence can feel long at times, so it’s important to acknowledge our wins along the way (and post-FI too)! Plus, sharing small successes with others can lift us up and keep us motivated to take the next steps towards our goals.
Each month, let’s celebrate our milestones and brag-able moments! Whether you’ve discovered a new frugal hack, hit a net worth goal, welcomed a new family member, paid off a chunk of debt, changed jobs, learned a skill, got a project underway… share it here with your fellow Australian FI enthusiasts.
Aussies, fill in this survey by the 25th day of each month. Posts are published on the last day of that month. For a reminder to submit, subscribe to the mailing list.
Now, on to this month’s humblebrags…
- Bronwyn from Miss Money Box – “After four months conducting 20 interviews (and transcribing them all myself), I have finally collected all the primary data for my Master’s by research thesis!”
- Lightning from Melbourne – “My portfolio has reached $50k and it was started in June this year! Next milestone I’ll celebrate is when it reaches $100k.”
- Serina from The Joyful Frugalista – “I quit my stable, full-time job to write and podcast more.”
- Aisha TravelandDaily from VIC – “I bought a house and will move in with my partner!”
- Frogdancer Jones from Melbourne – “Last week was when my second son finished his Bachelor of Music degree with his last recital. I chucked a sickie and travelled to Box Hill to see him do this thang. Life’s not all about finances!”
- Stan from NSW – “I made my FI journey public this month. My FI journey started in 2004 and I did not quit my job until 2014 – but I did it too soon. I have known nothing but failure, but 2020 will be a breakthrough year and I want the world to know what happens when you persist.”
- KL from VIC (aka Adulting World) – “I smashed $40k off my mortgage!”
- Sarah from Keepin’ It Frugal – “Laura and I officially became ‘Wifeys for Lifey’ this month, with a frugal wedding of course!”
- Michelle from Frugality and Freedom – “I helped a family member sign up to make their first investments with Vanguard Australia. Chuffed!”
I loved reading this mix of updates. Congrats to everyone making progress towards financial independence and having fun doing it.
Don’t forget, fill in this survey by the 25th day of each month or subscribe to the mailing list for a reminder when it’s due. See you next time!
PS. If anyone’s got a catchy name for this series, let me know. I need inspiration… and you’ll get credit and glory if you come up with a winning title!

Hey this is pretty cool! Always like having a stickybeak into others goals, fantastic to see the positivity it brings (certainly different to the daily doom and gloom forecasts we always get!) Why watch C:7 when you have Frugality and Freedom!
Haha! Yes, I spend a lot of my āentertainment timeā consuming personal finance content these days. Youāre right – itās fascinating to read othersā perspectives. Hope to see your FI highlight shared next month.
