Welcome to another edition of #AusFIWeekly. You’ll find great handpicked Financial Independence links from Australia and abroad – brought to you by Michelle, a mid-30s semi-retiree sharing my FI adventures at FrugalityandFreedom.com.
Hello from Day 7 of lockdown here in South Australia. It’s looking good to end today – fingers crossed. Luckily, I stopped in at the library before shutdown and picked up The Art of Frugal Hedonism by Annie Raser-Rowland and Adam Grubb. Lots of joyful wisdom and creativity in there, with many examples of frugal living that feel decadent and deeply satisfying.
“Let’s say you could save money, inoculate yourself against many of the ills of modern life, live more lightly on the earth, and enjoy everything more on both the sensual and profound levels.” Sign me up. Well worth a read.

10-Step Free Financial Independence Ultimate Course – Rask Australia
“This course breaks down the different paths to FIRE, shows you real-life examples of Aussies who are working towards FIRE or have already reached their goals, and helps you build your own plan to FI, in a way that works for you.”
Frugality and FI is the Gift That Keeps On Giving – Burning Desire for FIRE
“I like being frugal. I like the challenges of making material things last longer, enabling my money to go a little further and only shelling out for things I HAVE to have and things I WANT to have. Middle of the road ‘meh’ stuff doesn’t cut it in this household. Being frugal means that I can cut down unnecessary spending, freeing up my cash for fun things.”
Why You Need a Will – My Millennial Money
“Rachael (based in New Zealand) joined Glen to share her story on my millennial money, and she also shared the points around what she learnt, and what she wants others to prepare for so they don’t experience what she went through. Special thank you to Rachael for being so honest and sharing such a personal story.”
What is Minimalism: A Guide for the FIRE Community – Project Palm Tree
“To me, as an architect, Minimalism had always meant something quite different to the F.I.R.E. definition… So when I stumbled across Josh and Ryan (The Minimalists), it connected a lot of dots for me.”

Our Imperfect Path to Financial Independence – Playtirement (USA)
“You may read this and nod your head as you hear similar anecdotes that you can relate to. Or you may read this and be kicking yourself for not starting sooner as we sometimes did. But not anymore. No blame, no shame.”
FIRE Planning: What Can Go Right? – Stop Ironing Shirts (USA)
“So much of planning for financial independence and early retirement involves spreadsheets, sequence of return risk, and figuring out exactly when there will be enough money to quit. I found myself obsessed with these variables before leaving my career. Is my plan safe? Will I have enough? Exactly how should I be invested? Ultimately none of us know the future… Instead of talking about everything that could go wrong, I present the financial reasons your FIRE plan may go right.”
To All The Perfectionists Who’ve Ever Struggled With Investing – The Woke Salaryman (Singapore)
“Perfectionists also engage in a lot of self-destructive behaviour. They give themselves anxiety, diminish their own achievements and perhaps, most relevant to personal finance – procrastinate… Now, we are by no means investing gurus, but what we can offer you here are some ways of thinking that will help you take that leap into investing.”
Simple Living is a Ton Better Than Complex Living – Filled With Money (USA)
“Simple living is about focusing on the things that matter and getting rid of things that don’t. Too many people live with a complexity bias. Many believe that the more complex and busy their life is, the better they must be. In the end, they just end up making things more complicated than they are. That is not the goal.”
