Welcome to another #AusFIWeekly with handpicked Financial Independence links and events from Australia and abroad. I’m Michelle, a mid-30s semi-retiree sharing my FI journey at FrugalityandFreedom.com
Time to feature another guest curator from our local FI community. Say hi to FIRE Down Under who picked today’s top-quality content.
Hi, FI community! We are Mr (24) & Mrs (28) FIRE Down Under and this is the 14th month of our FIRE journey.
We are both currently in the travel industry, and working hard on different side hustles. Our ultimate goal is to be travelling this beautiful world of ours being digital nomads, working on our passion projects and focusing on creating solutions for the climate emergency we are facing.
Being so new on this journey, we are learning every day, reading many books and soaking up information from inspiring blogs, such as those featured below. We started our blog, as we were unaware of all of the amazing Australian FI bloggers out there, then we found ourselves a part of the community.
Our blog is our story, our learnings, wins, losses and everything else along the way.

The One About Risk Tolerance – FIRE Down Under
Our newest article diving into Risk Tolerance when it comes to investing. An important topic before you begin your investment journey. This article includes the factors determining your risk tolerance, including age, liabilities, and goals. You’ll also find a quiz inside to help you figure out your own risk tolerance. Leave a comment and let us know if the quiz rings true to you!
Can You Achieve FIRE On An Average Wage? Let’s Find Out – FIRE Your Own Way
Jordan is from Sydney and started blogging a similar time to us! This topic is definitely spoken about in the FIRE world. You do start to notice a common denominator amongst the community, there are a hell of a lot of engineers. But this is not necessary. The important thing is what you do with your money…
International Investing for Financial Independence – Two To FIRE
“Diversification, Diversification, Diversification” Enough said. Mr FDU & I have recently decided we are too heavily invested in Australian stocks, so we are looking at changing that up very shortly, this post is so detailed on how you can do that.
Beyond the Easy Wins: Tips to Reduce Expenses Once You’ve Tackled the Easy Stuff – The Flawed Consumer
“This part of the cost-cutting journey requires a strong mindset and dedication to the cause. That’s because reducing your expenses beyond the easy wins is about your lifestyle.” This post features great tips that I think we can all use, as we seem to lose touch and get a bit complacent with spending. Love the four principles of The Flawed Consumer: Finance, Knowledge, Kindness and Health.
Editor’s note: The posts by Two To FIRE and The Flawed Consumer first appeared as chapters in the free ebook Aussie FIRE: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Independence for Australians.

Would We Be Richer if We Bought a House? – Millennial Revolution (Canada)
So a bit of backstory here: We first heard about FIRE from Millennial Revolution, when we heard them on a podcast on our way to the Mornington Hot Springs and our mind was blown. We listened to the podcast because Millennial Revolution were travelling… INDEFINITELY. We had to know how! We bought the book and loved how they worked out all of the math for us. We also get really strange looks when people ask what we plan on doing with our money if we don’t intend on buying a house – like what other option is there, right?
Unlocking Geoarbitrage – Financial Imagineer (Switzerland, Singapore, Taiwan)
Matt’s site is just so well done! And Geoarbitrage is a topic that is hot for us. We plan on taking advantage of geoarbitrage in our financial independence journey. Living in South East Asia, for example, will make you hit your FIRE number much earlier than you would if you were living in a big, expensive capital city. He includes online tools as well, so if you are interested in Geoarbitrage look no further!
Compound Interest – The Frugal Expat (USA, Australia, Taiwan)
“Albert Einstein said Compound Interest is “the 8th wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn’t pays it.”” Again, enough said.
5 Common Financial Mistakes to Avoid – The Millennial Money Woman (USA)
“My husband and I are finance nerds and enjoy learning about all things related to money.” Same! Date night for us is doing our net worth tracker with a glass of wine. We may all think we are experts because we are constantly living and breathing our finances, but sometimes those simple ones get you!
Thanks to Mr & Mrs FIRE Down Under for choosing today’s links. I discovered some new blogs to read here! Follow along as they get closer to financial independence at firedownunder.com
