Welcome to another edition of #AusFIWeekly. It’s Michelle here from FrugalityandFreedom.com, a mid-30s semi-retiree bringing you a selection of great financial independence links, news, and events from Australia and abroad.
Every second week, I welcome a member of our local FI community to choose some favourite financial independence links (archives here). I’m delighted to introduce today’s guest curator: Instagram stars, OzFinancialFreedom. Take it away…
Hello FI Community! We are @ozfinancialfreedom, a couple in our early 30’s with no kids and one fur baby. We are both teachers and are debt-free except for the mortgage. We live simply in order to save 60% of our income but still spend freely on things that we value. We are pursuing FI to live and give like no one else and are on track to reach this goal within the next 5 years.

How I’m using Ethical Investing for Financial Independence in Australia – Frugality and Freedom
I have been referring to this post so many times over the last few weeks! We are huge proponents of voting with your dollar and we try to live as ethically and sustainably as we can. Making our investments reflect our values seems like a no brainer but I kept putting it off because none of the options available felt like the perfect solution. But this is not the right way to look at it, we should be doing the most good we can RIGHT NOW. Thank you Michelle for finally giving us the nudge we needed. Great information on ethical investment options, including superannuation funds, and links to ethical ETF reviews for those wanting to learn more.

“Every time you buy a single-use item you are throwing your money away and polluting the environment. Thankfully, there’s plenty of alternatives. Even if you make one of these changes a week, you’ll be making a difference”

Letter to the FI Community: Imagine – Impactivated (Belgium)
“As a community, we have a level of abilities, time and resources that could compare with some large non-governmental and non-commercial groups. Together we have tremendous power and we can have a huge positive impact. All we need to do is wake up, decide to unite and go change the world”
Doing Good Better with Your Money – Can I Retire Yet (USA)
“Having money lets us connect with wider purposes that make our lives meaningful. So, a key part of retiring early, or retiring at all, is the opportunity to better align your life with the activities that are most meaningful to you”
ECO-Frugality: The New Consumer Mindset – The Mindful Explorer (Canada)
“When one arrives at a point of realizing that frugal isn’t a bad word and that the environment is being radically damaged by our impact it becomes easy to shift your mindset. By spending on that which provides us the highest return of our time and money while spending less we find that less stress enters our daily lives. Combining this with an ecological focused attitude you will find a great sense of happiness and fulfillment knowing you are content and that you are creating a better world for your fellow mankind, the environment and all the creatures that inhabit it alongside us”
A Taste of Early Retirement – Modern FImily (USA/Canada)
“…make an effort to shift your attention and focus on what is GREAT in your life right now, regardless of where you are in your FI journey”
