Welcome to another edition of #AusFIWeekly. It’s Michelle here from FrugalityandFreedom.com, bringing you this regular selection of great financial independence links, news, and events from Australia and beyond.
Wowsers, what strange times we’re in right now! Sending you all best wishes from the confines of my childhood bedroom, where I’m self-isolating for 14 days after a quick arrival back to Australia. Stay safe, healthy and at home everyone!
It’s with great pleasure that I introduce today’s curator: Adventures with Poopsie. Every second week, I welcome a guest from the Australian FI community to select some favourite financial independence links (archives here). Over to you…
We’re Adventures with Poopsie, a married couple from Canberra. I’m the female half of the couple, I’m 32 and write the majority of the content. My husband, Poopsie, is 45 and he occasionally chips in with DIY posts. We both work for the federal government. We used to have a plan to retire early by 2023, but this has changed and we’ve yet to set ourselves our new date. We hope to narrow down our FIRE date this year so come follow along on our blog as we try to figure it out!

Here’s How I Saved Over $1000 by Doing Frugal February – That Girl on FIRE
We aren’t usually ones for “frugal challenges” but this post by Michelle at That Girl on FIRE gave us a lot of motivation. When you’ve been on this FIRE journey for a while, it’s easy to think you’ve cut everything you can. But as Michelle shows, you’ll often be taken by surprise by how much you can save when you put your mind to it.
How to Beat FOMO and Create Your Own Path to Wealth – Strong Money Australia
Strong Money Australia is, in my opinion, the father of the Australian FIRE community. Every single one of his posts are fantastic but this one in particular, I loved. As a millennial, I do suffer from FOMO and Dave provides some wise words to help combat it and continue on the path to FIRE.
How We Reduced Our Spending by 10% in 2017 – Enough Time To
It’s easy to get caught up in high savings rates when pursuing FIRE. This great post reminds us that every little bit counts and it’s never too late to make small changes which, over time, will make an enormous difference!
How We Eat on $4 a Day – HisHerMoneyGuide
We are absolutely hopeless when it comes to our grocery spending. While we will likely never get as low as Alex and Ellie, we regularly refer back to this post for inspiration and encouragement to get our grocery bill a little bit lower.

My Ideal Retirement: The Perfect Life – A Purple Life (US)
I have only recently discovered her blog, but in this post A Purple Life articulates why we (and so many others) are pursuing FIRE. There are some fantastic thoughts throughout the post but she ends on this: “And I want the most important commodity in my life: my time.”
The Financial Independence Lifestyle – Modern FImily (Canada)
We are big proponents of having balance in the pursuit of FIRE and have been caught out before by cutting out too much and being miserable because of it. The ladies over at Modern FImily hit this nail on the head – FIRE is about lifestyle changes that bring you happiness, not cutting out everything that you enjoy doing.
What’s Your Why of FI? – All Options Considered (US)
I love Ali and Alison and really enjoy watching them travel the world full time (mostly through Instagram). They are also incredibly kind and generous with their time and that really comes out in this post. Their main desire for FIRE was to spend more time with each other and that’s exactly why Poopsie and I want to FIRE as well.
Staying Motivated on Your Way to Financial Independence – Millennial Revolution (Canada)
It’s no secret we have had some motivation issues along our journey to FIRE. This great post reminds us that “The time will pass anyway” and so why not be working toward FIRE as it passes? Reminding myself of this has really helped with motivation lately and I hope it will help you too!
