Welcome to another edition of #AusFIWeekly. It’s Michelle here from FrugalityandFreedom.com, bringing you this regular selection of great financial independence links, news, and events from Australia and beyond.
Every second week, I hand over the reins to a guest curator from the Australian FI community. I love reading their selection of posts and discovering new content each time (such as in the archives here). Today, I’m pleased to welcome the writer of Aussie Doc Freedom blog to curate #25. Over to you…
—
Hi! I’m Aussie Doc, a specialist doctor with two small boys and a stay at home partner. We recently took and loved a big trip, getting half-way around Australia. We’re hoping to take a second “mini-retirement” with our boys to show them more of our beautiful country.
For many years, there was little personal finance information based in Australia and nothing specifically relevant to me as a doctor. I started Aussie Doc Freedom to write about financial topics and tips relevant to healthcare professionals locally. I wish I had known most of this ten years ago!

How to Pay it Forward: 5 Ways to Make the World a Better Place – Aussie Doc Freedom
“In what way do you want to impact the world? What is your legacy going to be? The impact can be individual, through donations and kindness, or by joining together in advocacy groups, we can be even more influential.”
Diary of a Bushfire Victim – Barefoot Investor
“On a scorching day in February 2014, my wife, our 7-month-old son and I stood looking at the smouldering rubble that was once our home… I’m going to share with you what happened over the next 12 months, in the hope that it might give some hard-won advice to the 1,800-plus households who are facing their ‘day one’ right now.”
Life is more than just your 20s – Lifelong Shuffle
“Focusing on your happiness over your entire lifetime instead of only your ‘here and now’ can be hard when you are young.”
CommSec Pocket: Shares Made Easy, a Review – Sustainable Living
“CommSec Pocket is a new App for buying shares on the stock market. It’s an online broker designed to make investing easy and was created by the Commonwealth Bank. One of the benefits of this App is that it allows you to invest small amounts of money, aka micro-investing.”

Crowdsourced Ideas For a Unique and Thrifty Valentine’s Day – The Frugalwoods (US)
“Valentine’s Day, the ultimate consumer binge on useless clutter designed to be generically, thoughtlessly romantic.”
How To Tell If Your Investment Plan Is Reasonable – White Coat Investor (US)
“I often tell people to choose a reasonable asset allocation (written investing plan) and stick with it. In this regard, the investor matters far more than the investments. Of course, that requires that the investing plan first be REASONABLE.”
Killing your $1000 Grocery Bill – Mr Money Moustache (US)
“When you look it up, the average food cost for a family of four in the US is actually quite high, at $944 per month. But to call it “food cost” makes it sound like it’s out of your control. I would call this the average food spending. Just like the average family’s transportation cost is not some fixed punishment that the cruel world imposes on them… it’s a measure of the amount of driving that they have designed into their lives, multiplied by the level of inefficiency of the vehicles they have chosen for themselves.”
The Compound Interest of Self-Improvement podcast – Choose FI (US)
“After learning more about habits with James Clear this week, Brad and Jonathan discuss the compounding interest of self-improvement and turning intention into action. Exploring those steps allows you to either build good habits or break bad habits.”
That was a great collection of links picked by Aussie Doc this week. Visit Aussiedocfreedom.com to read more about their journey.
